Violence Erupts in NULGE Elections in Edo State Amid Disputes and Unrest

Violence marred the NULGE elections in Edo State as armed thugs disrupted the voting process across the 18 Local Government Areas. Reports of gunshots, beatings, and intimidation surfaced as delegates were chased away and ballots destroyed.

The chaos was attributed to the forceful imposition of delegates in certain councils, leading to unrest and disputes among the staff of the Unified Local Government Service. The Edo State Local Government Commission suspended the elections due to the growing concerns of violence and unrest.

The Commission expressed worries over the increasing number of petitions and the disruptive behavior witnessed during the elections.
