African Visitors Find Nigeria's Living Costs Lower

Visitors from Liberia, Ghana, Cameroon, and Gabon have expressed that the cost of living in Nigeria, particularly in Calabar, is lower than in their respective countries. Ghanaian visitor Jacklyn Asar noted that despite complaints about high living costs in Nigeria, she finds it cheaper than in Ghana and other West African nations.

She mentioned that the current exchange rate of the Ghanaian cedi to the Nigerian naira (N82) allows for profitable reselling of Nigerian products in Ghana. Liberian visitor Samuel Ator, who visits Nigeria at least once a year, supports this view, stating he often buys goods to send to his daughter in Calabar.

Cameroonian clergyman Oru Deni visits Calabar every two months to purchase devices for resale in Cameroon, where he finds Nigerian goods cheaper. Similarly, Orji Igw from Gabon purchases food items in Nigeria to sell back home, indicating a trend of cross-border trade benefiting from Nigeria's lower prices.
