Voter Registration Age Is 18, INEC Insists

INEC has reiterated that the approved voter registration age is 18, according to Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Yobe State. During a visit to Emir Bade Alhaji Abubakar Gashua, Abdullahi clarified that citizens who turn 18 by 2027 are eligible to register to vote.

He emphasized the importance of voter registration in ensuring the integrity of elections. The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process has begun online since August 18, with physical registration set to start on August 25 and last for a year.

The physical registration will take place at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu and registration centers in the state's 17 local government areas. Suleiman, a resident, pledged to mobilize people to participate in the CVR process.

The REC also visited Wetland FM in Gashua to encourage coverage of INEC activities, especially the CVR, to ensure voter participation.
