INEC Clarifies No Voter Migration in FCT Polling Units

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that there was no migration of voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the adjustment of polling units during the recent area council elections. INEC's Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Wilfr Ifogah, explained that the adjustments were made to reduce overcrowding and enhance the voting process.

Each polling unit is now targeted to accommodate about 1,250 registered voters to prevent congestion and delays on election day. Ifogah emphasized that the adjustments involved splitting heavily populated polling units into smaller ones located a few meters away from the original units, ensuring that voters can easily find their polling locations.

INEC has taken steps to inform voters about these changes, including sending notifications via text messages and emails from February 18 to 21, 2023. The commission assured residents that the adjustments were purely administrative and aimed at making the voting process more orderly and efficient.
