Shettima Lauds Starlink's Support for NEMA Operations

On Tuesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima praised Starlink for its contribution to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) during a meeting in Abuja. Shettima received a delegation that included NEMA's technical team and representatives from SpaceX, led by NEMA's Director General, Hajiya Zubaida Umar.

He described the partnership between Nigeria and Starlink, the world's largest satellite internet constellation, as a significant advancement in strengthening the country's disaster management efforts. The collaboration is expected to enhance NEMA's response times and improve coordination during emergencies, which is critical for disaster response and humanitarian interventions across Nigeria.

Hajiya Zubaida Umar expressed gratitude to Starlink for providing high-speed, reliable satellite internet hardware and data plans to support disaster management operations. She disclosed that NEMA is deploying 50 designed flashpoints across the country, which will serve as command and control centers to improve emergency intervention operations.

Peter Kroetger from SpaceX commended Nigeria's efforts in disaster preparedness despite technological challenges.
