Shettima Represents Nigeria at AU Summit in Angola

Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Luanda, Angola, on Sunday to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU). Upon arrival, he was welcomed by senior Angolan officials and members of the Nigerian delegation, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb.

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Defence Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), and other senior officials. The summit, themed “Strengthening Mechanisms for Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Africa,” aims to review existing conflict prevention mechanisms and develop practical measures for emerging peace and security challenges.

It will address topics such as early warning systems, preventive diplomacy, and sustainable financing for peace and security. Prior to the summit, the 26th Extraordinary Session of the AU Executive Council convened in Luanda, preparing for the leaders' discussions.

Following his arrival, VP Shettima received a briefing on key issues expected to be discussed at the summit.
