Court Dismisses Suit for Turaki-Led PDP Recognition

On Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a ruling that struck out a suit aimed at compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Kabiru Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The court, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, determined that the plaintiffs, led by PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara, lacked the legal standing required to institute the case.

The judgment emphasized that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate the necessary legal authority to act on behalf of the PDP. Consequently, the court upheld preliminary objections raised by INEC against the suit, which included similar objections from the PDP.

The ruling signifies that the request for INEC to recognize Turaki's committee will not proceed, amidst ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP and various legal and political battles for control of the party.
