PDP's BoT Takes Control After Supreme Court Ruling

On April 30, 2026, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Adolphu Wabara, assumed control of the party's national leadership. This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the party's national convention held in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025, which had produced a leadership led by Tanimu Turaki.

The court's judgment, delivered on the same day, criticized the PDP for proceeding with the convention despite a prior court order that required compliance with specific conditions. The ruling left the PDP without a clearly defined leadership structure.

Wabara stated that the BoT would summon an emergency national executive committee meeting to appoint a caretaker committee to manage the party's affairs and ensure no leadership vacuum exists. This move aims to promote reconciliation and stabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the BoT emphasizing its responsibility to restore the party's political strength.
