Wabara Mobilizes Diaspora for Nigeria's 2027 Elections

Adolphus Wabara, the former Senate President and current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the People's Democratic Party, has initiated a high-level consultative unit aimed at mobilizing the Nigerian diaspora to protect the country's democracy in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. This initiative, which includes collaboration with former Action Congress vice-presidential candidate Ben Obi, seeks to ensure the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.

Wabara expressed deep concerns regarding the shrinking democratic space in Nigeria and the increasing pressure on opposition parties, which he believes undermines public confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He emphasized the urgency for patriotic forces to unite in defense of constitutional governance and to build a broad national consensus to rescue Nigeria from what he described as a state capture.

Wabara also highlighted the importance of citizen participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that active engagement is crucial to safeguarding against electoral manipulation.
