Oshoala Apologizes After Super Falcons' Loss to Malawi

Asisat Oshoala, captain of the Super Falcons, issued an apology to Nigerian fans following the team's unexpected 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday night. The goals for Malawi were scored by Tembi Chawinga, who netted twice, and Tabitha Chawinga.

The Super Falcons responded with goals from captain Rasheedat Ajibade and substitute Uchenna Kanu. After the match, Oshoala expressed regret for the loss, stating, “We are sorry for losing the opening game to Malawi.” She described the defeat as a wake-up call for the team, acknowledging that smaller nations are closing the competitive gap.

Oshoala emphasized the importance of preparation for their next game against the Copper Queens of Zambia, scheduled for Saturday night, and noted that the competition is still ongoing, requiring the team to work diligently to improve.
