Madugu Apologizes for Super Falcons' WAFCON Failure

Justine Madugu, the head coach of the Super Falcons, issued an apology for the team's disappointing performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Falcons, who are 10-time African champions, were eliminated in the quarter-finals by the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon and subsequently lost 2-1 to South Africa's Banyana Banyana, failing to secure a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.

This marks the first time Nigeria will not participate in the FIFA Women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991. Madugu stated that the players gave their best, but it was not sufficient, and he took full responsibility for the team's failure.

Despite increasing scrutiny and calls for his dismissal, Madugu expressed that he is not concerned about being sacked, emphasizing his service to the country and his record of 19 wins, 4 losses, and 4 draws in nearly 28 games.
