Water Ministry Strengthens Commitment to Food Security
The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, under the leadership of Minister Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing collaboration with relevant ministries and stakeholders to achieve food security, reduce poverty, and stimulate economic growth in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
This commitment was made during a High-Level Briefing on the Draft Nigeria Strategy and Action Plan for the implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration 2026–2035, held in Abuja. Prof.
Utsev emphasized the importance of a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to agriculture transformation and sustainable economic development. The ministry plans to support year-round farming through expanded irrigation and improved water infrastructure, including the development and rehabilitation of dams and reservoirs.
He also called for increased investment in climate-smart irrigation and resilient water infrastructure, advocating for greater private sector participation in water infrastructure to boost food production and improve livelihoods.
