NEDC Achieves 80% of Development Goals in Northeast

Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), announced on Thursday that the agency has achieved 80% of its mandated interventions in Northeast Nigeria. Established in 2017, the NEDC aims to facilitate the reconstruction and development of communities affected by insurgent activities.

Alkali highlighted significant improvements in the health sector, noting an increase in functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines from one to eight across the six states. In education, the NEDC has constructed 18 mega schools, all operational with necessary facilities.

Additionally, the agency has prioritized road rehabilitation, completing over 50 critical bridges. Alkali emphasized the importance of stable power for the success of these projects and assured that the Commission would not initiate projects without adequate funding to prevent abandonment.

He stated that contracts would only be paid upon meeting quality standards.
