Makinde Promises Unity Amidst Religious Diversity in Oyo

On Wednesday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde assured the people of Oyo that religion will not divide the state, emphasizing the importance of unity as the 2026 Hajj approaches. Speaking at the state Hajj camp in Olodo, Ibadan, he urged intending pilgrims to pray for divine guidance in selecting the next set of leaders, as the state prepares for elections in 2027.

Makinde highlighted that regardless of religious differences, families in Oyo have always coexisted peacefully. He addressed the Muslim community, encouraging them to pray for the right choice in leadership.

The governor also promised to complete ongoing mosque constructions and expressed gratitude for the support of the State Pilgrim Welfare Board, which reported 1,036 intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj. He assured that arrangements for visa security and accommodation are in place, with airlift operations starting on May 3, 2026.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal and former Speaker Monsurat Sunmonu.
