ICPC Reveals Weak Controls Enabled Fake Agency Setup

Musa Aliyu, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), revealed that weak institutional controls facilitated Adeniyi Adeyemi's establishment of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). Speaking in Abuja during the fourth Economic Confidential Lecture and National Spokesperson Award, Aliyu emphasized the exploitation of loopholes in Nigeria’s public sector, which allowed Adeyemi to manipulate government processes.

Following public outcry, President Bola Tinubu ordered the ICPC to investigate the activities of the non-existent council, which the Federal Government disowned. The investigation, initiated on July 7 by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, aimed to examine Adeyemi's alleged use of forged documents and his false claims of being a presidential appointee.

The ICPC submitted its report on August 6, clearing the Presidency of any wrongdoing in the matter.
