Oyo Governor Makinde Launches Violent Crime Response Unit

On a significant occasion, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at the Oyo State Police Command in Ibadan, marking a pivotal initiative in the southwest region of Nigeria. Governor Makinde emphasized the government's ongoing support for security agencies to strengthen their capacity in protecting lives and property.

He praised Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu for the efforts of the security agencies in maintaining safety in the state. The VCRU is designed to replace former tactical teams with a focus on intelligence-driven, professional, and human rights-compliant operations.

The unit will respond swiftly to violent crime emergencies and security threats, with personnel carefully selected from various divisions based on discipline and operational experience. Governor Makinde also urged community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to enhance security.

This initiative reflects the government's commitment to peace and public safety in Oyo State.
