Chevron Achieves 98% Reduction in Gas Flaring in Nigeria

Chevron has announced a 98% reduction in gas flaring at its plants, with a goal of completely eliminating it. Victor Anyaegbudike, Chevron’s Communications Manager, stated this during a training session for energy correspondents in Abuja.

He emphasized that gas monetization is central to Chevron's operations in Nigeria. The company has invested approximately $1 billion annually in local content and has contributed $10 billion over the last decade to support Nigerian companies and enhance local capacities.

Anyaegbudike noted that many skilled professionals in the industry have emerged from Chevron projects, including the Establish Gas to Liquid project, which employed 16,000 people. Additionally, Chevron has paid over $140 million to communities in the Niger Delta for development projects as it transitions to the Host Community Development Trust.

Grace Ike, Chairman of the Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, highlighted the importance of equipping journalists with technical knowledge and tools for effective reporting on energy issues.
