SDP Faces Crisis After Court Ruling on NWC Validity

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is currently grappling with severe internal issues and a recent judgment from an appeal court that did not recognize the convention held in November in Ibadan, Oyo State. Analysts suggest that the party lacks a valid national working committee (NWC) due to previous expirations, further complicating its structure.

The court upheld the suspension of the national secretary, Samuel Anywawu, leading to a crisis that has left the party's future uncertain. Prominent figures, including two former governors and a former caretaker national chairman, declined to comment on the situation.

The SDP's struggles are compounded by the dominance of major opposition parties, which have established significant structures across the country. The party's attempts to re-launch have failed, and it appears unable to pose a challenge to ruling parties in various states, including Anambra and Abia.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is expected to represent the party in future elections, as the SDP's prospects diminish.
