Melaye Questions Tinubu on ₦167 Trillion Borrowing

During a press conference held in Abuja, Dino Melaye, a former senator representing Kogi West and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu. Melaye questioned the management of Nigeria's debt, highlighting that Tinubu borrowed ₦167 trillion in just three years, in stark contrast to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who borrowed ₦87 trillion over eight years.

He lamented that despite the removal of fuel subsidies, which was expected to alleviate financial burdens, the country's debt profile has risen significantly. Melaye accused Tinubu of being indifferent to the nation's deteriorating state, particularly regarding issues of insecurity.

He further alleged that Tinubu has engaged in irregularities concerning major infrastructure contracts, claiming that grants were awarded without competitive bidding. Melaye's remarks reflect growing concerns about the current administration's fiscal policies and governance.
