Mother Charged with Killing Three Children in US Case

Lindsay Marie Clancy, a 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse from Massachusetts, was charged with killing her three children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—in January 2023. Clancy admitted to the killings but argued she was not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis, a severe mental illness following childbirth.

Her trial concluded in a mistrial on September 4, 2026, as the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. Clancy, born in 1990 in Wallingford, Connecticut, worked at Massachusetts General Hospital and had three children with her husband, Patrick Clancy.

After experiencing postpartum anxiety following her first two births, her mental health deteriorated after Callan's birth in May 2022. She voluntarily admitted herself to McLean Hospital in early January 2023, just weeks before the incident.

On January 24, 2023, while Patrick was away, Clancy strangled her children with exercise bands and attempted suicide, resulting in paralysis. Patrick discovered the scene upon his return.
