APC Chieftain Urges Atiku Abubakar to Step Down

Osita Okechukwu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called on Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and take on a statesman role. Speaking on Prime Time Arise Television, Okechukwu expressed that Abubakar's emergence as the PDP presidential candidate in 2022, despite calls for the party to zone its ticket to the south, triggered a crisis that continues to affect the party.

He emphasized that Abubakar should prioritize national interest over personal ambition, recalling the respect he had for late colleagues Dubem Onyia and Chuba Okadigbo. Okechukwu highlighted the detrimental impact of Abubakar's decisions on the PDP, which he claimed weakened the party's position as Nigeria's main opposition and contributed to the instability of the country's democracy.

He noted that the fallout from the 2022 elections had significant political consequences for Nigeria.
