Barcelona Chooses Anthony Gordon Over Rashford

Barcelona's sporting director Deco has clarified the club's choice to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United rather than making Marcus Rashford's loan move permanent. Rashford, who scored 14 goals while on loan at Barcelona last season, had a permanent transfer option for £30.3 million (€35 million), which the club declined.

Deco stated that the decision was influenced by Gordon's suitability to coach Hansi Flick's style of play, emphasizing the need for more energy and intensity in the attack, especially in Raphinha's absence. Deco expressed gratitude for Rashford's contributions but noted that Gordon's qualities better matched the team's tactical requirements.

The club analyzed several wingers before finalizing the deal for Gordon, which was worth over €80 million (£69.3 million). Gordon has made a strong start at Barcelona, recording four assists in his first five matches, contributing to the team's perfect start in La Liga, winning all four matches while scoring 17 goals and conceding just two.
