SSANU Receives Eight Months' Salary Arrears from Government

The federal government has released eight months’ salary arrears owed to members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) after the union issued a 14-day ultimatum regarding the implementation of the 2026 FGN/SSANU agreement. This decision came less than 48 hours after SSANU demanded immediate action on outstanding salary obligations, warning of a potential indefinite strike.
The ultimatum followed SSANU's 56th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where the union called for the release of funds and payment of outstanding Consolidated University Non-Academic Salary Structure (CONTISS) arrears from January 1, 2026. SSANU President, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, confirmed the payment and commended the federal government and Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, for their intervention.
Ibrahim noted that constructive engagement and prompt action could foster industrial harmony and benefit workers and the Nigerian University System.
