Peter Obi Explains Party Switches and Future Plans

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, addressed his party switches during an interview on Arise TV. He explained that his initial switch from APGA to PDP was driven by disputes regarding his successor as Anambra governor, stating he preferred to leave rather than allow conflicts to damage governance.

Obi criticized the PDP for not providing a better environment and described the political system as transactional, which he cannot support. He highlighted internal crises and legal disputes within the Labour Party that have eroded its viability.

Currently, Obi is working with the African Democratic Congress to build a unified front for future elections, acknowledging public doubts about past affiliations but emphasizing his commitment to a broader goal of rebuilding an effective opposition capable of offering accountable leadership in Nigeria. He formally registered as a member of the ADC on March 7 and is mobilizing support for the 2027 elections, particularly focusing on grassroots voter engagement in the Southeast.
