Sowore Claims Political Motivation Behind Prosecution

Omoyele Sowore, the President of the African Action Congress, stated that he is facing prosecution due to political motivations aimed at punishing his stance against corruption and injustice in Nigeria. During an interview following his release from Kuje Custodial Centre, where he was held after meeting bail conditions of N200 million, Sowore asserted that his trial is an attempt to limit free speech and silence long-standing opposition to corrupt practices.

He accused the government and security agencies of orchestrating a campaign of persecution against him, citing previous encounters with authorities, including the seizure of his National Youth Service Corps certificate and his expulsion from the University of Lagos for political activism. Sowore emphasized that his fight against corruption is a fundamental right of Nigerians and expressed his belief that the current government is targeting activists to maintain its power.
