Court Grants Omoyele Sowore N200m Bail in Abuja

On June 16, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Moham Umar, granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in the sum of N200 million. Sowore was required to provide two sureties, one of whom must be a traditional ruler.

Additionally, he must deposit his travel documents with the court. The bail was granted following Sowore's failure to appear in court, which led to the revocation of a previous bail.

Justice Umar noted that the judiciary would exercise discretion in granting bail, emphasizing Sowore's readiness to stand trial. Sowore's counsel mentioned that his passport is held at the U.S.

Embassy in Lagos, and he will need to appear in person to retrieve it. The court adjourned the matter until July 6, 2023.

Outside the court, Sowore expressed defiance, stating that no force could stop a revolution.
