Oluwo Urges Muslim Clerics to Engage in Politics

Oluwo Oba Abdulroshe Akanbi called for Muslim clerics to actively participate in politics to enhance the interests of the Muslim community. This statement was made during the formal inauguration of the League of Imams Alfa Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday.

The event saw the attendance of approximately 1,000 Islamic clerics from various states, including Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos, Edo, and Delta. The newly established body aims to strengthen Islamic leadership and promote inclusive, decentralized leadership structures among imams across the region.

Oba Akanbi dismissed suggestions that the league could create divisions within the Muslim community, asserting that its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission is intended to enhance institutional legitimacy and grassroots participation. He emphasized the importance of unity among members for the league's long-term success and urged clerics to engage politically to gain power and influence public policy.
