Jega: State Police Not Quick Fix for Nigeria's Insecurity

In an interview with Arise Television, public affairs analyst Mahmud Jega discussed the limitations of state police as a solution to Nigeria's current security situation. He argued that while state police could play a role in the long-term fight against insecurity, they are not an instant remedy for the challenges faced.

Jega emphasized that the military, despite being better trained and armed, has been unable to effectively manage the security situation, particularly in light of recent events in Borno State. He noted a concerning surge in Boko Haram activity, where the group managed to launch large-scale insurgent attacks on three military forward operating bases simultaneously, resulting in the deaths of command officers.

This situation suggests a total failure of intelligence, underscoring the complexity of Nigeria's security issues and the need for a more decentralized response mechanism.
