Tantita Security Wins Key Pipeline Surveillance Contract

Tantita Security Services, a pipeline surveillance firm led by former Niger Delta agitator Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, has won a significant contract in Abuja. The contract is crucial for national economic interests, as it employs a hybrid security model that integrates local intelligence with the Nigerian Navy and Civil Defence Corps.

This decision comes at a time when crude oil production has fallen below 1.2 million barrels per day but has recently rebounded to 1.7 million barrels per day. The Nigerian legislature dismissed proposals to decentralize security arrangements, which could weaken national economic security.

Lawmakers are also pushing for a development fund increase from three to six percent for oil companies operating expenses. Despite criticisms regarding the role of private companies in managing national assets, Tantita's approach has been viewed as a strategic move to combat oil theft and environmental damage in the Niger Delta.
