Reps Push for Long-Term Renewal of Tantita Contract

The House of Representatives' Downstream Petroleum Committee, chaired by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyer Ikeagwuonu, has advocated for the long-term renewal of the pipeline surveillance contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).

During a three-day retreat in Owerri, the committee expressed concerns over the persistent failure to ensure a consistent supply of crude oil feedstock to indigenous refineries, attributing the issue to government failures rather than market problems. The committee formally condemned the World Bank's recommendations regarding petroleum import licenses, which they deemed contrary to Nigeria's economic interests.

They demanded a public retraction and written apology from the World Bank within thirty days. The committee also disclosed credible information about certain international oil companies colluding with local firms to sell crude oil below market prices, resulting in significant revenue losses for Nigeria.

The committee plans to advance legislative priorities, including amendments to the Petroleum Industry Act, and will summon the CEO of NNPCL for accountability.
