Omokri Claims All 2027 Candidates Have FBI Records

Reno Omokri, Nigeria's ambassador-designate to Mexico and former presidential spokesman, stated that every presidential candidate likely to contest the 2027 general elections, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Peter Obi, holds a record with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Omokri clarified that such records do not equate to criminal records, emphasizing that they arise from routine interactions with U.S. authorities, such as visa processing and background checks.

He asserted that there is no criminal FBI record against President Tinubu, citing a document from the FBI that returned negative results for criminal arrest records and warrants. Omokri also challenged Peter Obi to publish his own FBI records, alleging that Obi has records related to an indictment for money laundering and tax evasion.

He noted that an indictment does not equal a criminal conviction, urging transparency from both candidates. Peter Obi resigned from the African Democratic Congress on May 2, 2026, and was ratified as the presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress on May 29, 2026.
