ICPC Denies ADC Leaders Access to El-Rufai Amid Trial

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) denied leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) access to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, asserting that the decision was in compliance with a court order. ICPC spokesman John Odei explained that the court order restricts access to El-Rufai to only immediate family members, legal counsel, and medical doctors.

The ADC had requested permission for a visit, listing several leaders including Aregbesola and Bolaji Abdullahi, but the ICPC's response indicated that the ADC does not fall within the categories allowed by the court order. Odei refuted ADC's claims of harassment, stating that the presence of armed policemen at the commission's headquarters was routine security.

El-Rufai is currently facing trial on nine amended charges related to alleged violations of corrupt practices laws, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
