Wike Seeks FEC Approval for N51bn Abuja Bus Terminal

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) regarding the operation of a N51 billion Abuja bus terminal. This terminal, part of a public-private partnership proposal, is crucial for enhancing transport infrastructure in Abuja.

Wike inspected ongoing major projects, including the reconstruction of arterial roads such as the N1 Wuy District Ring Road II and the dual carriageway linking the Central Business District to Wuse. The FCT administration plans to inaugurate two multi-million naira bus terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo, with the Kugbo facility designed to accommodate 10,000 passengers daily.

However, the operation of the terminal requires FEC approval, as it exceeds ministerial authority. Wike expressed confidence that the FEC would approve the proposal in its next meeting, emphasizing the importance of private sector involvement in managing the transport sector.

The completion of the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals is expected by June 2025, with the aim of improving transport links significantly.
