Wike Affirms PDP Unity Ahead of 2026 National Convention

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, addressed concerns regarding a potential split within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during a press briefing in Abuja. He dismissed reports of factionalism, asserting that while disagreements may exist among members, they do not equate to a division within the party.

Wike confirmed that the PDP remains united as it prepares for its national convention scheduled for March 29-30, 2026. He highlighted ongoing reconciliation efforts alongside the convention preparations.

During his inspection of various infrastructure projects in Abuja, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of a bridge project and the completion of a staff bungalow for the Nigerian Law School. He noted that the administration's commitment to quality project delivery is unwavering and attributed the government's performance to prudent resource management.

Wike also referenced the leadership crisis within the PDP, mentioning the formation of a caretaker committee loyal to him amid legal challenges following the party's convention in November 2025.
