Wike Inspects FCT Elections, Notes Low Voter Turnout

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), inspected the area council elections held on a Saturday, where he noted a calm atmosphere and peaceful conduct across polling units. However, he expressed concern over low voter turnout, especially in city centers, while participation appeared higher in satellite towns.

Wike praised the security personnel for maintaining order throughout the electoral process and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its management of the elections. He addressed criticisms regarding movement restrictions during the election period, clarifying that the measures were not a curfew but were aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Wike emphasized that the restrictions were standard procedures during elections and not an individual decision.
