Wike's Rising Influence Sparks Tensions with APC Governors

Reuben Abati, a veteran journalist and former presidential media aide, commented on the rising prominence of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, suggesting that his visibility and efforts are causing friction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors. Abati noted that Wike has been portraying himself as a hardworking minister and a loyalist to President Bola Tinubu, which has led to tensions, particularly as Wike holds more press conferences than the Minister of Information.

This situation has been exacerbated by the APC governors' recent announcement, led by Hope Uzodimma, that they will not support any political alliances that could undermine Tinubu's re-election bid for 2027. Some APC leaders are concerned that Wike's Rainbow Coalition could divide votes.

In response, Wike criticized the governors as politically lazy and maintained that his support is solely for President Tinubu, asserting that the coalition will not negatively impact the President's electoral chances.
