Wike Acts to Reclaim Diplomatic Land in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has directed the Department of Development Control to demolish illegally built structures on plots allocated to ten foreign missions in Abuja. This action follows the allocation of land to various embassies in 2008, which has since seen unauthorized developments.

Wike listed affected countries, including Thailand, Bulgaria, Syria, Somalia, Serbia, Montenegro, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Senegal, Palestine, and Liberia. He stated that the FCT Administration has begun notifying the missions about the illegal developments and emphasized the administration's commitment to preventing land grabs.

Wike also conducted a tour of several infrastructure projects in Abuja, including road links and beautification efforts, with a focus on ensuring these projects are ready for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's third year in office. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of land reserved for diplomatic missions and announced plans for criminal charges against individuals involved in encroachments.
