PDP Affirms Wike's Loyalty Amid Defection Speculation

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement on Wednesday, clarifying that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), remains a loyal member of the party amidst speculation regarding his potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This clarification followed remarks from APC Chairman Professor Nentaw Yilwatda, who praised Wike's leadership during a commissioning project in Abuja.

The PDP, represented by its National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Haruna Moham, described the APC's commendation as a misunderstanding, asserting that Wike's engagement with the APC-led federal government is akin to a temporary loan arrangement without any provisions for a permanent transfer. The PDP emphasized its intent to retain Wike as a valuable political asset and highlighted his achievements in infrastructure development and urban renewal in the FCT, which have garnered recognition across political divides.

The party called on Nigerians to support the PDP in future elections, particularly in 2027.
