Wike Cleared of Unauthorized Borrowing Allegations

Hon. Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, has refuted claims that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), engaged in unauthorized borrowing for projects. Agbese stated that Wike has not violated any laws in securing funds, describing him as a compliant public servant.

The allegations originated from Senator Ireti Kingibe, who claimed that Wike had not sought National Assembly approval for loans and raised concerns about borrowings made from August 2023 to March 2026. Agbese clarified that the processes for public borrowing involve constitutional and administrative authorities, and Wike has consistently subjected the FCT Administration's activities to legislative scrutiny.

He emphasized that an increase in the FCT's debt profile should be viewed in the context of ongoing infrastructure projects under Wike's leadership, which include significant road constructions and other developments. Agbese concluded that there is no basis for the allegations against Wike regarding unauthorized borrowing.
