Wike Nullifies 485 Land Titles in Abuja Amid Reforms

Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved the nullification of 485 land titles across the territory that failed rigorous integrity checks. This action is part of ongoing reforms in FCT land administration aimed at addressing issues related to fraudulent documentation, double allocations, and irregular grants in various area councils.

The affected titles will be removed from the regular database of the Department of Land Administration and the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS). High-profile entities among those affected include the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Ministry of Justice staff, and a multi-purpose cooperative society, alongside numerous individuals and organizations.

The cancellation spans major hubs in three area councils: Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari Area Council, and Kuje Area Council. Out of 8,287 land documents submitted from 2006 to 2023, only 3.2 percent were successfully screened, highlighting significant challenges in the integrity of land records.

Wike's decision signals an aggressive vetting process to ensure transparency and legitimacy in FCT land records.
