Wike Promises FCT Indigenous People Land Certificates

On Wednesday evening, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, assured the indigenous people of the FCT that they would receive Certificates of Occupancy (CofO) for their ancestral lands. During his visit to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), he cautioned residents to be wary of individuals who identify as human rights activists or politicians when they need something.

Wike addressed the community following the February 21 area council elections, where the People's Democratic Party won five out of six chairmanship seats across the area councils. He urged the community not to allow a return to deceptive politics and stressed that democracy requires mutual commitment from both leaders and the electorate.

Wike highlighted the importance of honoring agreements made with the community and mentioned ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Apo-Karshi road, which was awarded in 2010 but had been abandoned. He emphasized the need for FCT officials to remain accessible to grassroots communities.
