Senate Demands Evidence from Kingibe on Wike's Loans

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alleged that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has been acquiring loans without the approval of the National Assembly since he took office in 2023. In response, the Senate, through its Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, demanded evidence to support Kingibe's claims, stating that no unapproved loans exist to their knowledge.

Kingibe did not provide specifics about the loans but insisted that Wike had sourced them without legislative oversight. Adaramodu expressed surprise at the allegations, noting that the FCT had not submitted any proposals regarding budget shortfalls.

He reiterated that any concerns should be raised through proper parliamentary channels. The Senate emphasized its commitment to oversight functions and the welfare of the public, including the FCT, asserting that it operates independently of any political party.
