Niger Governor Orders Repairs After Windstorm Hits NYSC Camp

On April 25, 2026, a windstorm caused significant damage to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp located in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area, Niger State. In response, Niger State Governor Umaru Bago directed immediate repairs to the affected structures.

A statement issued by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, confirmed that there were no reported casualties from the incident. The Governor described the situation as unfortunate and expressed concern for the welfare of the corps members at the camp.

An assessment team, which included Dr. Hadiza Moham from the Commission of Education, Jacob Baba Yisa from the Commission of Youth and Social Development, and Brig.

Gen. Olakunl Nafiu, the Director General of NYSC, inspected the damaged facilities, which included the male corps member hostel, multipurpose hall, kitchen, and staff quarters.

Governor Bago emphasized the need for immediate repairs to ensure the safety and comfort of the corps members and commended the assessment team for their efforts.
