Wike Prioritizes State Deliverables Over APC Campaign Role

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), responded to his exclusion from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections. He stated that his focus is on delivering Rivers State and the FCT for President Bola Tinubu rather than seeking a role in the campaign structure.

While inspecting road projects in Abuja, Wike explained his past avoidance of the Director-General position in presidential campaigns, arguing that such roles do not guarantee electoral success if the individual fails to secure their home state. He cited examples from previous elections, including Rotimi Amaechi's inability to deliver Rivers State in 2015 and 2019, and Bukola Saraki's loss in Kwara State during the 2019 elections.

Wike asserted that politics is local and emphasized the need for politicians to demonstrate their ability to win elections in their immediate political environments. He clarified that his support for Tinubu's re-election in 2027 is not contingent on being part of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
