Atiku Abubakar Refuses to Engage Kashim Shettima

Atiku Abubakar, the Vice President of Nigeria, has publicly stated that he will not respond to Kashim Shettima due to perceived disrespect towards older and more experienced politicians. In a message dated April 13, 2026, Abubakar expressed admiration for Shehu Musa Yar'Adua and reflected on their first meeting in 1989.

He criticized Shettima's approach, recalling past instances of disrespect that led to significant political unrest, including rebellions against former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Abubakar emphasized that respect for elders is a crucial aspect of their culture and that he cannot engage with Shettima, who he believes lacks the courage and character to uphold these values.

He also defended former President Goodluck Jonathan against criticisms regarding his leadership, highlighting Jonathan's achievements during his tenure and the challenges he faced. Abubakar concluded by urging Shettima to focus on resolving party challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
