Nigeria's 2026 Children's Day Activities Unveiled

On May 15, 2026, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs, unveiled the activities for the 2026 Children’s Day celebration during a press briefing in Abuja. The theme for this year's celebration is "Future: Promote Inclusivity for Every Nigerian Child." Ibrahim emphasized the federal government's commitment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to protect and empower children, ensuring they have equal opportunities regardless of gender, disability, or socio-economic background.

She noted that children constitute 45% of Nigeria's population and are central to national development. The minister highlighted the importance of family in child development and announced initiatives to strengthen child protection systems, including a review of the Child Rights Act and the launch of a national menstrual health and hygiene policy.

Additionally, she disclosed plans for a universal child benefit initiative aimed at vulnerable Nigerian children, reinforcing the government's commitment to safeguarding children's futures.
