Oyeyemi Advocates for Enhanced Road Safety Funding

Boboy Oyeyemi, the former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), called for significant increases in funding for road safety infrastructure and stronger collaboration between public and private sectors. He made this appeal while delivering the chairman's address at the 30th anniversary celebration of Motor World International, which included the Automotive Legacy Excellence Award held in Lagos.

Oyeyemi emphasized that Nigeria's growing population and expanding vehicle demand place unprecedented pressure on the nation's road transport system, making it imperative for the government to prioritize road safety. He noted that Nigeria remains one of Africa's largest automotive markets, with a population of 200 million, and that investment in road infrastructure and safety enforcement has not kept pace with the rapid increase in vehicular movement.

Oyeyemi warned that underfunding road safety leads to rising road crash rates and associated economic losses. He urged the government to go beyond routine allocations and make strategic investments in modern traffic technology, road design, and driver education.
