Ezechukwu Disqualified from 200m Final at World U20 Championships

Miracle Ezechukwu was disqualified from the women’s 200m final at the World U20 Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, due to a controversial lane infringement ruling. Ezechukwu had performed impressively in the semifinals, clocking 22.61 seconds, but her disqualification left her devastated.

Nigeria lodged a protest to overturn the decision, but it was rejected, leading to disappointment among Nigerian athletics stakeholders who called for better technical representation in officiating. Ezechukwu was reportedly inconsolable, spending much of the day in tears over the lost opportunity.

This incident has raised concerns about the officiating standards in Nigerian athletics, especially following other recent controversies involving Nigerian athletes. Despite Ezechukwu's disqualification, Oghene Success Oyibu qualified for the women’s 200m final by winning her semifinal in 23.13 seconds.

Oyibu expressed her determination to perform well in the final, focusing on her strategy to survive the semifinal and aiming for victory in the upcoming race.
