ADC Urges Supreme Court for Timely Judgment Ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally requested the Supreme Court of Nigeria to deliver a timely judgment on its leadership appeal to prevent potential exclusion from the 2027 general elections. In a letter dated April 28, ADC's lead counsel, Mr.

Shuaibu Aruwa, SAN, expressed concern that a delay in judgment could jeopardize the party's ability to participate in the elections, which are set to commence early in January 2027. The Supreme Court had previously reserved judgment on April 22, 2026, regarding an appeal that challenges the leadership status of the ADC, following a ruling by the Court of Appeal on March 12, 2026.

The ADC emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already begun preparations for the elections, and without a timely judgment, the party risks disenfranchising millions of Nigerians who support its ideals. The ADC remains a recognized political party in Nigeria, but the ongoing leadership tussle poses significant risks to its electoral future.
