Nigeria Evacuates 105 Citizens from South Africa Amid Attacks

On September 27, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria evacuated another batch of 105 distressed Nigerians from South Africa due to ongoing xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi, announced that the returnees, consisting of 82 adults and 23 children, arrived in Lagos aboard South African Airways Flight SA060 at approximately 8:30 pm on Thursday.

This evacuation is the 13th since the process began on June 10, 2026, bringing the total number of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa to 1,821, with 1,388 funded by the Federal Government. The evacuation of 100 of the returnees was financed by a $265,854 donation from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, while the remaining five were funded by a private Nigerian citizen.

The ministry continues to engage with the RCCG and other philanthropic groups to facilitate further evacuations. The government expressed its commitment to addressing the safety and dignity of Nigerians in South Africa amid persistent attacks.
